SHILLONG: The under-construction Umsning bypass, which is an integral part of the Umiam-Jorabat four-lane express way, will be opened for traffic in March.
An official from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) informed that 60-70 per cent of the work has been completed, and currently, they are working on the minor bridge and vehicle underpass.
Once the bye-pass is completed, the Umiam-Jorabat four-lane road project would finally see its completion. The 5.6km road is already delayed.
Meanwhile, the officials also stated that the overlay work of the existing Umsning road has been almost completed.
“Only around 70 metres work is left in the market area and we will complete it shortly,” the official said.
The existing Umsning road was in a deplorable condition and the overlay work began only after the intervention of the High Court of Meghalaya.
