SHILLONG: In a recent meeting, the Parish Council of the Cathedral of Mary Help Christians has clarified that it had never approached the government for any financial assistance regarding renovation of the cathedral.
General Secretary of the Council Barnabas Nongbah said the ongoing renovations of the cathedral are being carried out “solely through the generous contributions of the faithful”.
The council also emphasised that the church and its surroundings are places of worship and meditation and visitors should maintain its sanctity. Earlier this month, Union Tourism Minister KJ Alphons had said the Centre would provide fund for renovation of Catholic, Presbyterian and Baptist churches in the state.
