NONGPOH: Well, sometimes the son too needs to extol the virtues of his father –if not ostentatiously then just as a polite reminder. President of the National People’s Party, Conrad K Sangma has reminded the people of Umtyrnga village under Jirang Constituency in Ri-Bhoi that the late Purno Sangma had always taught them to love and respect their community.
Speaking at an election rally here on Monday while canvassing for NPP candidate Sosthenes Sohtun, Sangma recalled his late father’s contribution for the development of Meghalaya and the nation as a whole and sought the people’s support for NPP in the upcoming elections.
”Purno Sangma is not with us anymore but we remember him and will always be grateful for his contribution,” Conrad said, urging the voters to be conscious while casting their ballot on February 27.

Conrad also asked support to help NPP form a new government in Meghalaya.
NPP has a new vision for Meghalaya and wants the support of all segments of the populace to facilitate overall development. “Facts available with us indicate that the Congress government has failed to deliver on crucial parameters such as health and education, which has put the state far behind on the development front,” he said.
He urged the people to vote for NPP in order to restore the pace of development so that Meghalaya is able to catch up with the rest of the world.
He also asked the people to think as to which party they should vote for and understand the importance of the forthcoming polls. “The NPP wave is irresistible and has reached every nook and corner of the state. Everywhere people are talking about NPP, which clearly indicates that Meghalaya has decided to pledge its support for NPP. People of Byrnihat and Jirang should also be a part of this wave,” Conrad added.
Reminding his audience of the January 4 rally in Shillong, which was attended by over 25,000 people, Conrad said: “At that rally, people in large numbers raised a common slogan for change. It was a historic day for NPP and the momentum continues across the state as we gear up to form the new government in Meghalaya”.
Attacking the Congress, Conrad added: “They are saying I am meeting Narendra Modi. Yes, I have to meet him because he is the Prime Minister of this country. If we have to bring development to Meghalaya we have to talk to the Prime Minister.”
He also reminded the crowd that for the sake of Meghalaya’s development, the NPP would work closely with the Centre.
While making the general observation that “politics is complex”, Conrad noted: “NPP will always be there for the people of the state. And if the NPP candidate is elected from Jirang, the entire NPP clan and its extended family will always be there to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of the constituency as a whole.”
The rally was also attended by Prestone Tynsong, Ngaitlang Dhar, James Sangma, MLA, H S Shylla, MDC, Victor Ranee, MDC, and State NPP President WR Kharluki.
