SHILLONG: Irked at the state government for shifting the Wapung Community and Rural Development Block (C & RD) Block from Wapung village to Lumshnong village, a delegation of local residents demanded the restoration of the C & RD Block to Wapung.
The local residents are from several villages that falls under Wapung C & RD Block, East Jaintia Hills. They met the Governor, Ganga Prasad on Wednesday who assured that he would take up the matter in his capacity to find ways and means to restore the C & RD Block to Wapung.
Addressing reporters after meeting the Governor, M.H. Dkhar, a representative of the delegation said that several villages, NGOs had opposed the shifting of the C & RD block to Lumshnong which is over 40 kms from Wapung.
Condemning the shift in the stand of the state government, Dkhar said, “The state government has deceived the public. We want development in our village so we want the state government to restore the C & RD Block in the same site where the inauguration took place.”
“We identified the best of land for the setting up of the Block, although the state government needed 3 acre of land, we gave away 5 acres of land,” he said.
Dkhar stated that the state government should revoke the January 9, 2018 notification on the shifting of Wapung C & RD Block to Lumshnong.
The Block office was shifted from Wapung to Lumshnong after eight months of its inauguration on April 22 last year in which former C & RD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar was present along with former MLAs Justine Dkhar and Hopeful Bamon and other officials.
