Livestock distribution kept in abeyance

SHILLONG: The South West Garo Hills deputy commissioner, who is also the District Election Officer, has asked the district veterinary officer to keep the scheme of distribution of livestock in abeyance till the election is over.
A veterinary official allegedly distributed cattle under the livestock programme after the model code of conduct came into effect. Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Kharkongor said deputy commissioners of Tura and Ampati had sent a flying squad to the site at Boiragipara village to verify the alleged distribution of cows.Kharkongor said a showcause notice was issued to the district veterinary officer on the basis of the report of the executive magistrate in-charge of the flying squad.
As many as 14 cows were ordered to be taken back to Rongkhon farm in Tura.
The cattle is under the supervision of DVO Tura with instruction that they are not to be transported anywhere till the pollsare over. The report confirmed that there were no political functionaries present during the distribution of cows.
