SHILLONG: The state police have made elaborate security arrangement to ensure peaceful Republic Day celebrations on Friday.
DGP S B Singh said the tightened security is despite militant outfits HNLC and GNLA posing no threat to the state’s law and order.
“Adequate security arrangements have been made for the celebrations,” he said.
East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak said regular checking has been carried out. “We have also deployed our men in several areas, including parks and other public places, to ensure safety and security of the citizens.”
He appealed people to come out in large numbers to celebrate the day.
SP (City) S. Thamar said police have made a full-cover security plan and there are no threats from any corner.
According to Thamar, as the security has been intensified in different parts of the city and the district, there is no cause for worry.
However, police are not taking any chances and security personnel are on a vigil to avert any untoward incident.
