NONGPOH: The Nongpoh Town Committee (NTC) has written to Governor Ganga Prasad seeking his intervention in stopping the installation of a weighbridge in the town.
In its letter to the governor, the committee stated that after much deliberations and discussion with residents of Nongpoh town, it found out that the majority was opposed to the Transport Department’s decision to install any such structure within the jurisdiction of NTC as it would cause inconveniences to the public.
NTC had earlier opposed the government’s move to install a portable weighbridge at the district transport officer’s campus that was later shifted to 13th mile Byrnihat. Further the letter said such kind of structures will hamper the smooth flow of traffic along the national highway and particularly from the main town which will affect daily commuters and schoolchildren.
As witnessed from the present weighbridge installed at 13th Mile, the increasing number of trucks parked along the national highway has not only blocked movement of vehicles but also increased pollution.
“The Nongpoh Town’s endeavour in maintaining a clean surrounding and its campaign under Clean India Mission will totally be in vain,” the letter stated.
The letter also extends its gratitude to the then Transport minister and the state government for considering its earlier request of not installing the portable weighbridge at DTO campus, Umlyngkdait.
