Kolkata: A day before the Union Budget 2018-19 is presented, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday took a dig at the central government, claiming that budget would be with a look at the Lok Sabha election election to be held next year.
“The Union Budget will be delivered tomorrow (Thursday). The centre would come up with the election budget this year. Everybody knows how the government was run for the last four years and what’s the current situation. But this year, they would present an election budget,” she said after her Trinamool Congress’ core committee meeting here.
“We never deliver a budget looking at the elections. Ours is a developmental budget. It is always a budget for the people. No matter what happens our government will never take up any anti-people programme,” she claimed.
About the impending Panchayat elections in Bengal, the Chief Minister said all the elections must be completed by August this year and urged party leaders to complete pending works within that time.
“The panchayat election will happen within the next three to four months because the tenure of the current panchayat will get over by August this year,” said Banerjee, also the Trinamool supremo.
