SHILLONG: Ahead of the February 27 polls, the Congress is jubilant over the victory of the party in the by-polls in Rajasthan.
While the Congress wrested the Ajmer and Alwar parliamentary seats from the BJP in Rajasthan, the party also won the Mandalgarh assembly seat, also held by the BJP.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma congratulated the people of Rajasthan on “giving a fitting reply to the divisive forces”.
“We are proud that people have stood up against these forces of polarisation. This is the beginning of the end. People of India have risen and the writing is on the wall, for the current dispensation to mend their way or perish”, the chief minister said in a statement on Thursday. Congress spokesperson and Cabinet Minister Ronnie Lyngdoh said the victory will be a turning point for future elections. Despite the BJP resorting to money and muscle power, they could not win the polls, Lyngdoh added.
