SHILLONG: The Congress on Thursday downplayed the controversy over the jacket worth over Rs 63,000 worn by AICC president Rahul Gandhi, saying that the saffron party is bereft of issues ahead of the polls.
Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, MPCC working president Vincent Pala said BJP does not have any other issues for the polls and hence they are raking up silly issues.
Rahul had worn the jacket during the concert organised by the party in city on Tuesday. “It was so cold that day and I brought a jacket from my house and Rahul Gandhi used it,” he said while slamming the BJP that the saffron party is politicising the trivial issue.
To a query, Pala said that he met the church leaders and this was nothing new as he had met them in the past for ideas, to understand their problems and how to go forward.
“Infact, BJP had sanctioned Rs 70 crore for them and everyone knows what the intention of the BJP is,” Pala said.
