TURA: The filing of nominations saw a slight increase on day 3 in Garo Hills with altogether 6 candidates from different constituencies completing the official process on Friday.
In Tura, three candidates including two from United Democratic Party (UDP) and an independent filed their papers with the Returning Officer at the deputy commissioner’s Office.
Pillarson G Momin and Santosh A Sangma both from the United Democratic Party (UDP) filed their nominations. While Pillarson will be contesting from 44-Raksamgre constituency, Santosh will contest from 45-Tikrikilla constituency.
Another candidate who filed his nominations in Tura was Dilliram D Marak. Marak will contest from 50-Selsella constituency as an independent candidate.
Sayeedullah Nongrum who is also contesting the Tikrikilla seat as an independent also came to file his nominations. However, he had to leave without completing the formalities as he could not get his papers ready in time. Nongrum will file his nominations on Saturday.
In Baghmara, sitting MLA, Samuel Sangma filed his nominations to retain his seat as an independent. Samuel will take on Sirgan A Sangma of the Congress and National People’s Party (NPP)’s Sengnal Sangma.
Siju-Rongara sitting MLA, Rophul S Marak also filed his nominations on Friday. Marak who is contesting for the seat as an independent candidate is pitted against Rakkam Sangma of the NPP and Francis Pondit R Sangma of the Congress.
Williamnagar in East Garo Hills is still to open its account with none putting in their papers, while in Resubelpara, lone independent candidate, Starline C Marak submitted his nomination papers.
Ampati in South West Garo Hills recorded a zero on the third day with none of the candidates turning up to file their nominations.
