TURA: Senior BJP leader and Meghalaya in-charge, Nalin Kohli has stated that the criteria of the selection of poll candidates was winnability of the candidates.“This was not a list driven by individual claims but rather it was based on multiple assessments undertaken by the party workers. The best candidates were selected,” said Kohli while speaking to The Shillong Times over phone from Guwahati. He dismissed fears about rejected candidates going rogue and contesting the polls as rebels. “If somebody is unhappy with the list and wishes to contest we can’t stop them. We wish them well but, I don’t foresee any threat from rebels in this election,” said Nalin Kohli. On the denial of ticket to state vice-president Edmund K Sangma for Raksamgre, the senior Supreme court lawyer reiterated that the results of the multiple assessments showed Jonathan Rabha as a potential winner. “Denial of ticket to Edmund Sangma is not a reflection on his seniority and leadership,” said Kohli as he tried to mollify the situation emerging from the declaration of the party list. He indicated that the party has already reached out to those candidates who did not figure in the party list. “Although they were denied tickets yet, they are still part of our party and we will see how best to use their services. Their involvement will be there in the party,” asserted Nalin Kohli. |
