CGI sheets case cleared in inquiry report

TURA: The controversy surrounding the presence of three truckloads of CGI aluminium roofing sheets in the premises of a primary school at Demdema village of Phulbari constituency which was alleged to have been stored for distribution to win over votes ahead of the February 27thelections has been cleared by district election officials.

The Returning Officer to 46-Phulbari constituency who conducted the enquiry into the seizure of the CGI sheets submitted his report mentioning that the 300 bundles of aluminium roofing sheets comprising of 2400 pieces was meant for the Demdema Community and Rural Development Block and had been ordered by the state government’s Directorate of Housing.

According to the enquiry report, the consignment was delivered by Ankit Agarwal on behalf of M/S Frontier Sales Corporation of Guwahati to Demdema C&RD as per the order of the state housing department.

As per the probe report, the consignment was placed inside the school building for two days due to lack of space in the block office.

The entire consignment has since been shifted to the block office premises and sealed by the police in the presence of a magistrate.

The opposition NPP had accused the Phulbari Congress candidate and Meghalaya Speaker A T Mondol of attempting to distribute the roofing sheets to voters.

Mondol had denied the allegations and even asked for a magisterial enquiry to unveil the truth behind the accusation.
