SHILLONG: Congress’s HDR Lyngdoh, who is seeking re-election from Sohiong, said on Saturday he was a leader of the poor.
Speaking at a rally at Rangshken in East Khasi Hills, Lyngdoh said he would visit every village in the constituency and ensure that the homeless get roof above their heads.
“We have to look forward, not backward,” he added.
A statement to the media claimed that despite Rangshken being a non-Congress area, Lyngdoh’s election rally pulled a 15,000-strong crowd on Saturday.
Lyngdoh promised a primary health centre in the village, a civil sub-division and an HSLC centre for examination. He also made road connectivity to all villages in Sohiong a priority while adding that sanctions for the improvement of roads at Nur Nur village have been made.
Lyngdoh claimed that a water supply project worth Rs 5 crore was sanctioned for Deingied village.
