SHILLONG: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which has fielded 21 candidates, will win at least 10-15 seats in the upcoming polls, said its South Shillong candidate Vikash Gupta.
Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, Gupta focused on the need for empowering the youth who, so far, “have been used as an instrument by politicians, especially during elections”. The increase in unemployment is a cause for concern, the NCP candidate asserted and said he would put emphasis on skill development training and sports.
“I have seen many youths who are graduates but they are still working as labourers because they have not been taken care of,” he said. ) Enumerating the problems in the constituency, Gupta said there are no basic facilities like public toilets and drinking water ATM for the public. The public distribution system also needs to be streamlined.
South Shillong constituency is heading for a multi-cornered contest with BJP’s Sanbor Shullai, Congress’s Manas Chaudhuri, NPP’s Sounder Cajee, NCP’s Gupta and RPI’s Moon Lyngdoh in fray. Gupta said NCP has an ideology of co-existence, peace and development.
