Tura: The General Observers held a meeting on Monday evening with the contesting candidates of the Assembly Constituencies under West Garo Hills District at DRDA Conference Hall, West Garo Hills, Tura.
During the meeting, General Observer, Dr. Nidhi Pandey briefed the candidates and their election agents about the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the provisions of the Representation of Peoples Act, 1951, Model Code of Conduct amongst others. Based on the notification issued by the ECI, Dr. Pandey requested the candidates to avoid making statements which would create disharmony between different sections of society on ground of religion, caste, creed, community, etc. Further, she emphasized on the use of Suvidha which is a Single Window System for candidates and political parties to apply permission for meeting, rallies, vehicles, etc., and Samadhan is a public grievance redressal system for receiving complaints, etc.
Moreover, she informed the gathering about the relocation of ten Polling Stations under West Garo Hills District which has been approved by the ECI under 44-Raksamgre (ST), 45-Tikrikilla (ST), 46-Phulbari (GEN), 48-Selsella (ST) and Rangsakona (ST) Assembly Constituencies. Dr. Pandey also informed them that the Election Commission has arranged all the necessary facilities for persons with disabilities (PWD) to vote on the poll day.
General Observers, Harjeet Singh requested the candidates to cooperate for the smooth conduct of election process while Rubal Agarwal urged them not to misuse social media.
District Election Officer, West Garo Hills District, Ram Singh requested the candidates to follow necessary guidelines issued by the ECI and also to reach out to the maximum about ethical voting.
Swapnil Tembe, Sub-Divisional Officer, Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, Dadenggre presented a power point presentation on Election Expenditure Monitoring (EEM) and other major legal provisions related to EEM.
