SHILLONG: Harbinson Kharkongor, the working president of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) in Mawmuthoh (East Khasi Hills), said the committee of the village council (Dorbar Shnong) showed their disrespect to Nongkrem MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit.
He told reporters at a press conference on Monday that the party had sought permission from the headman of Mawmuthoh village, Ribor Kharumnuid, on January 26 for a general meeting to be held on February 2, and publicity for the said meeting was made accordingly.
“Around 10.30 pm on February 1, I got a call that the meeting cannot be held at the community hall. This sudden move by the headman bemused us as the meeting was to be held the very next day,” he said.
Kharkongor said the headman should have adjusted the timing but the party members were informed at the eleventh hour, which led to confusion.
Asked on the reason why the headman denied them permission to hold the meeting, he said, “I am not aware of the reason but he want to support (HS) Shylla.”
Kharkongor denied the allegations that Basaiawmoit called Kharumnuid a “street boy”.
“He (Basaiawmoit) did not make any comment about the headman,” he said.
