Drunken driver knocks down twelve in city

SHILLONG: Twelve pedestrians, including two teenagers, were seriously injured when a pick-up vehicle driven by a drunken porter lost control and knocked them down at Iew Mawlong in the city on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the incident happened around 3.55pm. The driver and the porter have been identified as Pynshailang Kharlyngdoh (24) and Bimol Chettri (24).
“It seems that the porter was driving the vehicle when the accident happened. Both were drunk,” police said.
Among the injured were Amar Chettri (45), Navin Chettri (45), Jenisha Lyngdoh (26), William Masi (25), Kiden Lyngwa (15), Angel Steve Mairom (14), Akanas Mawphiniew (20), Margaret Kharlukhi (32) and Denis Rani (25).
The pedestrians were admitted in Civil Hospital Shillong and Woodland Hospital. Two persons are critical, the police said.
