JOWAI: There are five candidates in fray from Jowai but the constituency in West Jaintia Hills is bracing for a duel between UDP’s Moonlight Pariat and NPP’s Wailadmiki Shylla.
Pariat, who is a member of the Jaintia Hills district council, had contested the Assembly elections in the past but could not win. People here are of the view that this time he might win if he can defeat his strongest NPP opponent.
If elected, Pariat has promised to set up a skill development training institute to help unemployed youth. He will also see that all pending projects, including the Iawmusiang market project, Umngot water supply scheme, are completed. Improving tourism and educational institutions, besides healthcare, is also on his agenda.
Shylla has vowed to work for all-round development in his constituency. He will complete all pending projects if he is elected. Others in the fray are AAP candidate Banrilang Jungai, Congress’s Andrew Shullai and BJP’s Marki Mulieh. Shullai and Mulieh are first-time district council members. Shullai was elected the JHADC chief a few months back.
The AAP candidate wants to fight corruption. According to him corruption should be eradicated to usher in development. Mulieh too will ensure all-round development as per the BJP’s Mission Document.
