Songsak: The union home Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed concern over the prevailing law and order situation in the state and blamed the ruling  Congress accusing it of failing to curb lawlessness while raising the issue of the murder of NCP candidate from Williamnagar who was killed in a IED blast triggered by suspected GNLA rebels.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh was at Songsak on Monday to address a large public rally for the party’s candidates in three constituencies, namely Thomas Marak in Songsak, Rikman Momin in Rongjeng and Santosh Marak in Williamnagar.
“It is very saddening to learn about the death of a contesting NCP candidate and three others. I pay homage to their lives,” said Rajnath Singh as he began his address to the waiting crowds.
“In Meghalaya there is no law and order. Where there is lawlessness how can development take place?” Questioned Rajnath Singh.
He targeted the Congress government accusing it of only providing ‘under-development’ for the people of the state.
“In Meghalaya it’s citizens gave the Congress a government six times but in return the party provided little.
Highlighting the BJP’s slew of development packages for the state, Rajnath Singh said that if voted to power the BJP would ensure drinking water potability, electricity and roads for each house and village.
“I assure you that if a BJP government comes in Meghalaya we will fulfill our promises within 2 years,” claimed Singh.
Targeting chief minister Mukul Sangma, the Union Minister questioned his ability to provide better health facilities.
“The CM is a doctor but the people of the state living in the border belt have to carry their sick family members to Bangladesh for treatment due to lack of facilities in their own state,” charged Singh.
He cautioned that the health scheme of Rs 5 Lakh announced by PM Modi for the poor in the country would not be released by the Congress if it returned to power in Meghalaya and appealed to the electorate to vote in the BJP.
Singh also promised a CBI probe into scams allegedly committed by the Congress government in Meghalaya.
“Meghalaya will be a state of clouds raining development down if BJP comes to power,” said Singh while also touching on the NGT ban on rat hole mining where the party had promised transparency in the mining sector to end this unscientific way of extracting coal.
A similar rally of the union minister also took place at Tura on the same day attended by BJP supporters at Law College field.
