Editor,
Nirav Modi a diamond business Czar of Mumbai pulled off one of the most incredible bank loots duping almost every Banking Ombudsman of Punjab National Bank (PNB) and the CBS (Core Banking System). This is neither a BJP nor Congress matter although the systematic looting through unpaid loans of Rs.1500 crores reportedly started under noble PM Manmohan Singh’s rule from 2011! But the core question is how did it add up to Rs.11,000 Crores by January 2018. And how did Mr Smart, the then RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, the ex Planning Commission “think-tank” MS Ahluwalia, and the then CBI ex- Boss Ranjit Sinha did not sniff it out then and allowed the matter to drift to such a state? The Modi Govt. took office only on May 26 2014 but how did the loot blossom ? Apparently there is a deliberate attempt to denigrate and tarnish the image of PM Narendra Modi since just because the offender is also called Modi. Just because one Sohan Shira is a GNLA boss not all Shiras are a bad lot and can be tagged with the same ‘militant’ label!
This is obviously an insidious plot to malign the image of PM Narendra Modi since both the capers who pulled the “loot and scoot” operandi were Modis. But the million dollar question is how does a Belgian born (native place- Belgium, Antwerp EU) whose maternal uncle’s name is Mehul Choksi become a “Modi” to loot under the tag name of Modi? I beg to remind the esteemed readers that this is neither a BJP nor Congress issue because it involves every citizen’s hard earned money! When farmers are dying, middle class’ people’s income is squeezed, the billionaires and multi- billionaires are looting and escaping from the country. This is unacceptable as it lowers the image, credibility and capability of the present Prime Minister to a great extent. My humble suggestion to the Modi Govt is to implement on war footing the following (i) scan all those people working in foreign
office (issue of passport), and those frequenting it (ii) appoint honest banking Ombudsman” in every Public /Private sector banks (iii) Profile every mega tycoon doing business or those having maximum banking transactions overseas from each and every state to pre-empt future looting (iv) screws should be tightened on the present banking mechanism, through the office of Governor RBI and the Board of Directors of Banks concerned (v) Coordinate banking activity in all states and keep tabs of mega business tycoons and of other professions (vi) LOUs ( Letter of Undertaking) for working capital loan from any bank must be checked and scanned and brought directly to the personal notice of the Finance Minister. This must be done especially for those business tycoons earning net turnover of more than Rs 10 crore or above per day (vii) monthly banking transaction data of mega business tycoons and their money trails overseas may be updated directly to the Governor RBI and the FM and the PM. (viii) All airport and maritime authorities may be alerted about the movements of the mega rich and mega business tycoons and if found to be suspicious their Aadhar card and Pan Card may be deactivated and their overseas business partners be informed. Last but not the least BitCoins or crypto currency handlers may be sniffed out as these people are also likely to create mayhem in the banking sector. Relaxing banking transaction norms for” ease of doing business” is not a good idea. It needs tightening.

Election bargain for “congestion free” Shillong town
Editor,
The biggest concern of Shillong town is the traffic jam. Much has been written about this issue but all goes in vain. One wonders why the authorities are so deaf and the leaders so dumb. I think now all the people need to come to the streets and beat the drum. The public should drive home the point that all speeches on development would be meaningless without a permanent solution to the roads choked with excess vehicles. The jammed traffic in Shillong town only renders many developmental plans not implementable and life more miserable. This is not the end of the story. The jammed street has failed each of us in multiple ways. It has put us in an awfully unpleasant situation. No other developmental plans will ever make us jubilant now. The bottom line is that Shillong is badly longing for a congestion-free road communication.
Since the state is going to the polls very soon why don’t we adopt a quid pro quo method? I am sure our visionary leaders who are earnestly committed to serving the public will sincerely listen to our concerns now. So, let’s match their prayer to us for “our support” with our “humblest appeal” to address the road issues as soon as they form the new government.
In this, I would urge upon our prominent intellectual organization like ICARE and the local media to take this issue on a war footing. All other NGOs should join together to speak out in chorus about the bane of the road congestion. Yes, the road to success is pretty smooth right now. I hope, if we are sincere, that this two-way bargain will certainly bear fruit.
