Umkiang Holy Cross Church
JOWAI: The newly built Holy Cross Church of Umkiang Parish was blessed by Victor Lyngdoh, Bishop of Jowai Diocese and inaugurated by Stephan Rotluanga CSC, DD, Bishop of Aizwal in the presence of Fr. Robert Mathaias, CSC, the Provincial Superior of Holy Cross Fathers North East and other Holy Cross priest, congregation, and faithfuls from the Parish and neighbouring parishes on Sunday. 69 children also received their first Holy Communion and the Parish also had its Holy Eucharistic Procession.

HC asks Thadlaskein BDO to pay rural scheme benefits
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya High Court has directed the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Thadlaskein, West Jaintia Hills, to pay beneficiaries who were left out under the Special Rural Works Programme (SRWP). Speaking to reporters, Angela Phawa, Martha Phawa and Kwill Phawa said they were deprived of the Rs 10,000 benefit to each under SRWP, which prompted them to file a writ petition in the Meghalaya High Court. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, president of the Meghalaya People’s United Front (MPUF), Dawanpoimi Laloo, said some beneficiaries applied for Rs 10,000 under SRWP but there was delay in releasing the amount. Stating that the scheme was diverted to Iongpiah and Lumpyrdi, which are urban areas, Laloo said, “There was diversion of rural scheme to urban scheme.”
