SHILLONG: The chief secretaries of Assam and Meghalaya will have election-related discussions via video conferencing on Friday to ensure peaceful polls in the border constituencies of the state.
There are as many as 168 polling stations bordering Assam.
Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Kharkongor said the chief secretaries, in presence of state election officials and DGPs of both the states, will discuss the ways and means to ensure free and fair polls in the border areas.
Security-related issues in the border constituencies will be discussed during the meeting, he said.
Another agenda will be free passage of polling personnel to Assam to reach several constituencies in Meghalaya.
The security along the international border will also figure in the discussion.
The chief secretaries of both the states chose video conferencing to discuss the issues related to polls due to paucity of time.
