TURA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who charmed hearts at Madison Square in New York, is on his maiden visit to the Garo Hills.
The prime minister is expected to address one of the largest public gatherings in the party’s history when he lands at Shyamnagar playground in Phulbari today. He is scheduled to address the crowd at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.
As per BJP sources, it is likely to be one of the biggest events in the region in recent times and Modi fans are leaving no stone unturned to ensure its success.
From motorcades wrapped in a mélange of saffron to every single landmark in the non-descript river town of Phulbari, on whose side flows the mighty Jinjiram river, the BJP’s lotus symbol is in bloom everywhere.
Arriving a couple of days after Rahul Gandhi’s marathon rally in the region in which the Congress chief accused the saffron party of encouraging social fragmentation and called for a BJP ‘mukt’ Meghalaya, Modi, the effortless crowd puller, is expected to tear all Congress allegations to shreds as he prepares to land a few hard punches on the Mukul government.
His man Friday in Meghalaya, national spokesperson Nalin Kohli, exuberantly points to the preparations underway. “The prime minister’s rally will be the rally of all rallies in the Garo Hills. It will be a massive gathering of people who want to see change in Meghalaya,” said Kohli from Phulbari where he is overseeing last-minute preparations for Thursday’s rally.
The BJP leader-in-charge of Meghalaya mocked the Congress over its rallies in Mendipathar, Garobadha and Tura on Tuesday accusing the party of roping in unwilling people to prevent an embarrassment about low turnout.
“The Congress had to literally herd in people for Rahul’s rallies whereas at Modi’s rally people will come of their own volition. It will be spontaneous because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s charisma,” said Kohli.
