SHILLONG: The Joint Director of MBoSE, M. Marbaniang, assured that a corrigendum will be issued with regard to the mistakes in the Class IX Social Science textbook so that students are not misled.
Admitting that there were mistakes in some sections of the book, Marbaniang said it may have been due to technical glitches at the time of typing or printing but assured that the MBoSE will take the matter seriously since it is the first edition.
Reviewers will be asked to make necessary corrections, he added.
He urged principals to direct teachers to complete the units I and II and in the appropriate time MBoSE will give a corrigendum for Unit III.
The MBoSE will inform all school principals and teachers that they should report if they find mistakes in the textbook as all the copies printed this year are the first edition.
The books will then be sent to publishing houses to make corrections.
Marbaniang assured that that there will be no room for mistakes in the second edition.
The Joint Director of MBoSE added that due process was followed before bringing it out in which publishers submitted their manuscripts at the time when expressions of interest were invited and given to subject experts or reviewers after coding it.
“This was the book that was given the first preference recommended by them (reviewers) and given to publishing houses to print it,” he said.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Khasi Student’s Union (KSU )members led by its in-charge of education cell R. Nongrum met the Jopint Director M Marbaniang on Friday where they demanded that the book be reviewed.
“We were told that the circulation of the book cannot be stopped. The book contains wrong information about traditional weapons of the Khasis,” he told reporters.
The union members were told that when the expression of interest was floated, very less Khasi authors approached and Nongrum pointed out that those who have completed their PhD should review the book.
