Meet
Shillong Sreehata Sanmelani (a united platform of Bengali (Sylheti) residents of Shillong) will hold its first general body meeting on February 25 at 11am at Jagannath Mandir Auditorium, Thana Road. Dr. J.B.Bhattacharjee , ex-Vice chancellor , Assam University will preside over the meeting.
Notification
The District Election Officer, West Garo Hills District has informed that permission was granted for use of vehicles for election campaigning purposes will be valid only up to 4pm of February 25. However, each contesting candidates in their own constituencies, will be entitled to one vehicle for his own use besides one each for his or her election agent and party workers on the poll day, the permission for which may be obtained from the Law & Order Cell (Permission Branch), DRDA Office, Tura.
Section 144
The District Magistrate, Ri Bhoi district, Nongpoh has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting plying of any overloaded vehicle weighing over 9 MT over Lailad and Umsiang bridges, for the safety of the road users as well as the bridges and road pavement in the area. The order will come into force with immediate effect until further orders.
Prohibition
The Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat has informed that in order to facilitate the movement of polling parties, deputed to the various polling stations in East Jaintia Hills before and after the polling on February 27 and to avoid any inconvenience to the public on the day of counting of votes in the upcoming polls, plying of coal trucks in the district is prohibited from February 25(6am) to February 27 (midnight) and on March 3 from 5 am till midnight.
Flying squad
The District Election Officer has informed that pamphlets will be distributed through Flying Squads from Saturday to Monday from the date of polling stating that as the campaigning period has ended, the vigilance through Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Team has been increased. Any person carrying cash exceeding Rs. 50,000 should also carry supporting documents along with it. The DEO has also cautioned that bribing or cases of threat of electors is not only an electoral offence but also punishable under Indian Penal Code. All vehicles used by the Flying Squads will be fitted with video cameras with GPS locator for recording the interception made by them.
