SHILLONG: A massive traffic snarls were witnessed in the city due to the shows of strength by different candidates who left no stone unturned to make their presence felt by taking out huge rallies.
Whether it was Mawlai or Nongrkem, candidates from different political parties took out rallies in different part of the city along with their supporters which literally threw the city out gears for several hours.
It was seen that vehicles with party flags and supporters singing and dancing in their vehicles expressing their support. Due to these campaigns there was a scarcity of public services since many local taxis and other mode of transportations were reserved by the candidates for their rally while the commoners were searching for local taxis in different areas of the town and the rest were stuck in traffic jams.
As the campaign ends on Sunday at 4 pm, the political parties will once again make their efforts to woo the voters on Sunday and similar rallies are expected to be taken out in the city.
Meanwhile, the month long campaign this time was more about blame game as each and every political party accused each other of being corrupt communal while others accused each other of destroying Meghalaya.
Religion was also a major factor this year as BJP, NPP and Congress made continuous attacks on each terming one another as communal and projecting itself as the well wisher of the minorities.
The campaign this year was also full of violence as few stabbing and assaulting cases were reported besides the NCP candidate, Johnathone Sangma’s assassination. Huge amount of cashes were also seized from different parts of the state though it has not been linked to any political party as of now.
