Rijiju lauds state cops

SHILLONG: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Saturday congratulated the state police for their successful operation against GNLA chief Sohan D Shira.
The minister said there is absolute coordination between the Centre and the State when it comes to security.
He appreciated the “battle-hardened” SF-10 commandoes of Meghalaya Police.
“There may be separate political parties ruling at the Centre and in the State but when it comes to security they work together and we have given enough support to the Meghalaya government,” Rijuju said.
“We normally provide security as per demand of the Election Commission,” he added.
Asked to comment on the police achievement, Rijiju said, “Welding guns is not a solution… If you take arms it will not disturb people of New Delhi, Mumbai or Chandigarh but it’s your society which will be affected, the issues related to Sohan D Shira was under radar a for long time.”
Asked about the overall law and order situation in the state, Rijiju said, “As a minister in charge I have asked all our forces to be agile and prompt to have a peaceful election. Incidents do take place during elections but we must try to prevent, there is no massive scale of violence but sputtering incidents of violence in Meghalaya, especially in Garo Hills.”
On the need to provide additional security, Rijiju said, “Security deployment is adequate and if necessary we can always rush in additional forces.”
