SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has complained to the returning officer of North Tura constituency against the National People’s Party (NPP) for not allowing Congress workers to hold a
In a statement to the media issued on Saturday, MPYC said NPP exceeded the time allotted to it for holding a meeting on the premises of the GHADC Round Building on Saturday.
The meeting slot for the Congress was from 6.30 pm to 8.30pm but NPP national president Conrad Sangma, along with James, Agatha and Thomas Sangma, concluded the meeting at 8pm, which was beyond the party’s permissible time limit, leaving no time for the Congress, MPYC said in the statement.
“For people from outside the state, hearing Conrad’s speeches for the first time might seem amazing but the people of Meghalaya are not fools. We are aware of all the hot air he is blowing. What Conrad Sangma’s family could not do in 40 years Mukul Sangma did in four years. We are witnesses to the changes,” it added.
Questioning the truth in Conrad’s claims of bringing about a change in the state, MPYC challenged NPP to make the Baljek airport functional. The airport was built during the tenure of NPP founder PA Sangma when he was with the Congress.
“With all his big talks about being in the Modi-led NDA government and his memorandum submitting sprees, it should be a piece of cake for him,” MPYC said.
It also accused Conrad of doublespeak saying he was making different promises in Khasi Hills and Garo Hills. “In Khasi Hills, he projects Prestone Tynsong as the chief minister but in today’s speech in Tura, he promised that one from among James, Agatha and Thomas would be the chief minister. Is he indecisive or just full of double standards?”
“Under the leadership of Mukul Sangma, the government created new districts, sub-divisions, C&RD blocks, police stations and good roads. Under the leadership of Conrad Sangma and his party we saw the failed coalition government of 2008 and the previous executive council at the GHADC both of which crumbled due to their excessive greed for money,” the MPYC statement added.
