SHILLONG: Meghalaya police have made elaborate security arrangements for the Assembly polls to be held on Tuesday.
Director General of Police, Dr S B Singh, informed that all security arrangements are in place and altogether 106 companies of security forces have been deployed throughout the state.
Singh pointed out that all vulnerable and critical polling stations have been allotted one section each of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) besides many areas that have been covered by the forces depending on the apprehensions of the law and order situation.
When asked about the situation in Garo Hills, Singh said that largest number of central armed police forces and even SF-10 have been deployed in Garo Hills especially in South Garo Hills and East Garo Hills.
The State police is pressing extra efforts to ensure free and fair polls in Garo Hills after the NCP candidate, Johnathone Sangma was killed in an IED blast recently besides the chief of GNLA, Sohan D Shira was also shot dead in a police encounter just few days back.
