Nitrosum tablets found in Assam vehicle
SHIILLONG: The Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) recovered 160 Nitrosun tablets from a vehicle in the city. Around 11am on Monday, a vehicle with Assam registration number dashed into a motorcycle with Meghalaya registration number. The biker was Constable B Songthiang of ANTF, East Khasi Hills near Jail Road Petrol Pump.The driver of the Assam vehicle, Kamal Barua (40), ran away. The ANTF personnel chased the vehicle and it was intercepted at Kachari Point. On searching, 160 tablets were recovered from the vehicle. Police arrested the accused and admitted him to Civil Hospital.

Radio jockey apologises after BJP complaint
SHILLONG: A radio jockey had to apologise after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday lodged a complaint against Radio Mirchi (91.1 FM) with the Chief Electoral Officer alleging that it had broadcast illegal propaganda with the aim and intent of communalising the election. The complaint was forwarded by Ankur Kumar. He said message like “Don’t vote for anti-Christian party” was promoted through the radio. Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor said the deputy commissioner immediately issued a showcause notice to the radio and the particular radio jockey issued an apology.

Too many rules dampen election spirit: NPP candidate
SHILLONG: As the voters turn out in Tuesday’s polls, the NPP candidate from Nongthymmai feels there is too much of rules and regulations which has somehow dented the election spirit. Talking to media persons about the low turnout than the 2013 polls, Ehkupar Nongrum said that one factor for the turnout was the EVM problem as many people came out in the morning to cast their votes but many of them left after some EVMs malfunctioned. He also said that there are too many rules and regulations now unlike before when people are more aware about elections.”You see this time, even three to four days before the elections,it seems people are not aware about what is happening,” the NPP candidate added. Responding to a query, he said that many people would not vote for BJP. He also speculated that Meghalaya is heading for a coalition government and further added that NPP will perform exceedingly well in the polls.

Tea seller detained for violating EC rules
SHILLONG: A tea vendor was detained for distributing tea and snacks to people near the MTDC polling station in Polo. Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor said he has no information as to which party he belonged to but the person was distributing tea and snacks to people which was not allowed as per the guidelines of the Election Commission. “He was detained and removed from the premises,” Kharkongor said.
