SHILLONG: its official!  Tura MP and President of the   National People’s Party (NPP), Conrad Sangma will be the next Chief Minister of Meghalaya.

After a series of political developments during the day, Conrad Sangma on late Sunday evening   paraded 34 MLAs who would support the NPP-led Government and staked claim to form the new Government in the state.

Conrad Sangma would also take Swear on March 6   though Sangma remain tightlipped on the date of the oath-taking ceremony.

Conrad Sangma was accompanied by the MLAs of all the regional parties including UDP, PDF and the BJP who have made a commitment to support the Government.

Speaking to media persons after staking the claim, Sangma said that the NPP was clear from the day one that it wanted to provide good governance in Meghalaya which is missing for the past many years.

“We will also see transparency is there besides ensuring implementation of the Central Government schemes and push infrastructure in the state,” he told reporters

He also added that the new coalition Government would work on framing policies since the state lacks many policies including a youth policy.

When asked if there was any opposition to his selection as the next state Chief Minister, he said that there was no opposition and he was selected as the Chief Minister candidate with the nod of the coalition partners.

“I came here just with a bag and two shirts and I was planning to go back tomorrow to attend the Parliament session,” he

Admitting that running a coalition Government is not easy, he, however, expressed optimism that the   they would provide stable Government as all MLAs are committed to work for the cause of the state and the people with an understanding.
