JOWAI: The District and Sessions Court in West Jaintia Hills has been functioning without a judge since last October.
After the retirement of judge B. Giri, the Ri Bhoi District and Sessions Judge was appointed, said sources adding that the judge visits the district court once a week.
“The non-appointment of a full-time judge here has created inconvenience to law professionals in particular and the public in general,” a source closed to the Bar Association said.
The source said in Jowai there was no court building though land has already been allotted. “The construction of a building has already started in Amlarem,” he added.
Jowai and Khliehriat has recorded high crime rate. The CMJ court building should be considered in Khliehriat and the court building for the district and sessions judge in Jowai, the source observed.
Amlarem has low rate of crime whereas the crime graph in Jowai and Khliehriat is rising.
“We would like to urge the competent authority to look into the matter and the district sessions court in West Jaintia Hills be well-equipped,” a citizen said.
