Mysuru Zoo gets animals & birds from Meghalaya, Assam
MYSURU: Meghalaya has sent a Himalayan black bear to Mysuru Zoo under an animal exchange programme.
A statement to the media said on Saturday as per the direction of the Central Zoo Authority of India, the Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden has also sent great birds and animals like white pelicana, brahminy shell duck, deer barking, four horned antelope, brow antlered deer and leopard car to Mysuru. The black bear has been sent from Shillong zoo (Lady Hydari Park).The birds and animals were brought to Mysore Zoo for enrichment of animal collection of the zoo, conservation and breeding. In exchange, the Mysuru Zoo has sent Bengal Tiger, black buck and common peafowl, the release added. (Agencies)
Passing out parade of 58 Gorkha training centre held
Shillong: The passing out parade of recruits of 58 Gorkha Training Centre was held on Saturday at Happy Valley, Shillong. The parade symbolises the culmination of rigorous recruit training and transformation of recruits into young soldiers of the Indian Army. In an impressive ceremony, a total of 214 recruits took the oath of affirmation. The parade was reviewed by Brigadier Mukesh Gurung, SM Commandant 58 Gorkha Training Centre and exhorted the young soldiers to be the finest soldiers of the Indian Army. He also congratulated the proud parents and guardian for the successful graduation of their sons into military service. Recruit Chandra Bahadur Kumal was awarded the ‘Overall Best Recruit’ and was presented with the ‘Manekshaw Khukri’. Recruit Robin Thapa was awarded the ‘Dutta Trophy’ for standing overall second in merit. The parents of the young soldiers were also honoured with the ‘Gaurav Padak’ in recognition of their role and contribution to the nation.
Project on diabetic blindness launched
Shillong: The Prevention of Diabetic Blindness Project was launched on Saturday at the inaugural-cum-awareness function held at Anton Hall, Laitumkhrah. The programme was held by Indian Medical Association (IMA) & All Indian Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) in collaboration with Bansara Eye Care Centre (BECC) and Society for Promotion of Eye Care & Sight (SPECS).To spread awareness about the prevention of diabetes & diabetic blindness, a motorbike rally commuting in and around Shillong was flagged off by the SP, East Khasi Hills District, Davis Marak. Simultaneously, to commemorate the launch of the IMA”Prevention of Diabetic Blindness” Project, an awareness program was conducted in which Dr. D.S. Sethi (Diabetologist), Dr. NSD Raju (Chairman IMA PDB Project) and Dr. BNR Subudhi (National Coordinator IMA PDB Project) were the prominent speakers. The program witnessed 314 participants from various NGOs, members from the press, schools of nursing, health organisations, colleges and universities.
BK Bajoria School completes 44 years
SHILLONG: BK Bajoria School celebrated its 44th Foundation Day in the school auditorium on Saturday. Mukesh Singh, DIG (CID), who was supposed to be the chief guest, could not attend the programme due to unavoidable circumstances. R Muthu, SSP (CID), graced the occasion on his behalf. The 9th edition of ‘Efflorescence’, the magazine of KL Bajoria College, was released on Saturday. There were cultural events by students of the school and the college. Two senior employees were also felicitated. The first batch of students at Kalayan Nidhi, an institute of Skill Development (Tailoring), a social work endeavour of K. L. Bajoria Charitable Trust, received certificates.
