SHILLONG: NPP legislator SG Esmatur Mominin (Rahibul) never thought that he would contest the recently held Assembly polls but the death of his brother, former minister Manirul Islam Sarkar, compelled him to join the fray and subsequently win the seat.
Mominin, who is also the GHADC MDC from Shyamnagar, attributed his victory to his late brother. “My victory is due to the blessings of my late brother,” he said.
Mominin said his late brother did the ground work that made it easier for him to wrest the seat from former Assembly Speaker AT Mondal. He won by 1,134 votes.
“People had love and affection for my late brother and this was reflected in my victory,” he said.
Mominin said his priority for Phulbari is to ensure that the job card holders under
MGNREGS get wages through their bank accounts since there were allegations of diversion of money.
He also said there are several critical roads, including those sponsored by NEC in the constituency, which need urgent government attention.
