NONGSTOIN: The West Khasi Hills district administration has stopped release of the fund for payment of Rs 5000 grant to women in the district, prompting the Nongstoin Mahila Congress to raise the matter before the deputy commissioner.
Members of the Nongstoin Mahila Congress, led by Ditina Marwein, and former MLA Gabriel Wahlang, met the DC Arun Kumar Kembhavi and sought his intervention on the matter.
Marwein expressed surprise that the district administration had stopped release of grant to women beneficiaries that was sanctioned by the previous Congress-led MUA-II Government.
The Deputy Commissioner said that he cannot issue the order to the Block Development Officers to release the grant as the higher authorities had temporarily stop him from issuing the grant to the beneficiaries until further notice will be given.
