SHILLONG: While Meghalaya government is yet to prepare master plan for national games, the issue of calling tender for two stadiums in Ampati and Pomlakrai figured in Meghalaya Assembly on Wednesday.

Raising a question, Independent MLA, Lambor Malniang asked on the numbers of tenders called by the previous government.

To this, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh said that there were proposals for construction of indoor stadium at Ampati, construction of indoor stadium at Pomlakrai and an outdoor stadium at Ampati.

Earlier, Lyngdoh said that the Sports department was in the process to prepare a detailed master plan and no tender has been called by the previous government.  Lyngdoh informed that the Pomlakrai stadium was proposed to be constructed at a cost of Rs 22.15 crore.

BJP legislator Sanbor Shullai asked whether any proposal had been made for an indoor or an outdoor stadium in South Shillong constituency to which the Minister replied that there was no such proposal for the constituency.

To this, Shullai asked, “Why?” Lyngdoh replied that he requires notice. Shullai persisted and asked whether the government would consider his constituency for an indoor/outdoor stadium to which the Minister said that it would be considered.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that master plan and proposal for the National Games 2022 was yet to be finalized and said that the actual blueprint had not been made yet as there were to be discussions with consultants and mapping also needed to be done.

According to the Chief Minister, he said, “It is not to be looked at as an individual constituency issue.”

He added that the finalisation of places for the National Games depended on the organising committee headed by the Chief Minister.

Stating that the hosting the National Games is a massive event, Sangma called upon the cooperation of all departments, MLAs as the successful holding of the same will take the state to new heights.
