SHILLONG: A Congress MDC from Betasing constituency in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, Nipendra Koch on Friday joined the National People’s Party here.
Koch informed that he had resigned from the primary membership of the Congress before joining the NPP.
Welcoming the MDC into the party, NPP leader James Sangma said the party was happy to be associated with Koch, a senior member of the GHADC.
“We are looking forward to working with him for the region and the state,” Sangma added.
Replying to a question on the party’s move to form the new EC in the GHADC, Sangma said the party’s central leadership has no part to play in the developments in the GHADC as it was up to the MDCs to decide on the future course in the GHADC.
Recently, three MDCs from the Congress and one from NCP deserted their respective parties and joined the NPP.
Earlier on Friday, a delegation of GHADC MDCs met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and his brother James to apprise them of the problems in the district council. “We have told them that the government is trying its best to resolve the problems faced by them,” James added.
