SHILLONG: Highlighting that over Rs 100 core from Lafarge Cement not utilized by the Special Purpose Vehicle Society (SPVS) for the water supply projects in Shella and Mawsynram areas, the Congress legislator H M Shangpliang sought the intervention of the Government into the matter.
During the question hour on Friday, Shangpliang wanted to know what was the reason for the delay in implementing the projects for the 54 villages.
In reply, the PHE Minister Samlin Malngiang said that the Governing Body of SPVS wanted Meghalaya Basin Development Authority to conduct a study before releasing the fund.
“Our people have been denied the projects and now the Governing Body passed the buck on basin development. I request the Chief Minister to intervene”, Shangpliang said.
The chief minister admitted that the concerns of the legislator are genuine.
“There are more funds with SPVS. Last week, we had a meeting to discuss the issue and we were surprised about the matter”, Conrad said.
