SHILLONG: Advocate General (AG) BP Todi is yet to resign after the new government assumed office despite the demand from several quarters to appoint a local AG and Additional Advocate General.
A government source said on Wednesday that since the appointment of Advocate General is always political in nature, it is normal for him to quit the post to pave way for the government to appoint a new AG as per the choice of the new government.
Todi was appointed during the tenure of the Congress-led MUA-II government.
“The state government is yet to make any decision on the appointment of a new AG,” sources said.
When contacted over phone, Todi did not return the calls.
Earlier, there were media reports regarding the appointment of BJP leader Nalin Kohli as the Additional Advocate General which, however, was objected by coalition partners as they preferred a local person.
State BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh said the party had not made any proposal to appoint Kohli as the Additional Advocate General.
“We did not make any proposal but as per media reports, there was only a discussion among the coalition partners,” he said.
To a query on whether any BJP leaders were appointed in any posts, Lyngdoh said first of all, the MLAs who are supporting the MDA should be given priority compared to others.
