High spending on fishing pond, IB irks MDC

SHILLONG: Concerned over the extravagant expenditure on fishery pond and Inspection Bungalow, HSPDP MDC Mansturdy Nongrem said there was no need of spending huge amount on these.
“What is the need of setting up an IB? Who are the people residing there,” asked Nongrem while criticising the council for the expenditure.
UDP MDC T. Dkhar said there is only one pond that is used by the MDCs for fishing.
Executive Member of the council BB Warjri revealed that there are slips which showed the number of MDCs who go fishing in Lailad.
Elaborating on the construction works, he said the bungalow at Lailad was renovated in 2010 at a sanction amount of Rs 10 lakh.
As for the construction of the fishery cum water reservoir, the construction was in 2011 at a cost of Rs 24.7 lakh.Warjri informed that the stocking of fingerlings is Rs 18,000 in 2009 while the purchase of fish feeds is Rs 82,000 in 2009-2010 and Rs 84,000 in 2010-2011.
( However, the sale of harvested fish was Rs 7,500 till January, which shows a huge monetary gap.Warjri said the matter will be examined by the Executive Committee to adopt a policy pertaining to fishery.
