SHILLONG: Topcem Cement forayed in the area of skill development with its training programme in collaboration with Centum Foundation which aims at improving the level of knowledge and skills of masons.
In a statement, Topcem said mason trade is one of the basics in construction Industry which is common to all types of Infrastructure build- up and has variance with respect to specialization and specific requirements of the project.
The programme will enhance the employability as well as the image of masonry as respectable and highly skilled trade. It will help promote concrete technology and appropriate use of concrete products, the statement added.
The skill development training programme was inaugurated on March 26 in city attended by 30 masons who undertook theory classes along with practical sessions and demonstration in skill development.
Anil Kapur, President, Sales and Marketing, Topcem Cement, said, “Our endeavour has been to contribute towards the growth of the local skill development keeping in view the requirement and government priorities.
The attempt is a start up for Topcem Cement and the training is based on National Occupational Standards (NOS) and Qualification Packs (QP) of National Skill Development Corporation.
The programme enables Topcem Cement to engage and improve relations with the key stakeholders while at the same time help the masons increase their skills and income opportunities.
Topcem Cement also plans to hold similar kind of skills development training programme across the region over the period of time.
