Govt not to rush with pending bills

SHILLONG: The new government feels it would be unreasonable to table pending bills without proper homework during the current Budget session that will resume on Thursday.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma told media persons on Wednesday that the state government could not hold consultations on many pending bills in such a short period and these might not be introduced in the ongoing session.
“We require six months to do some homework on the bills as we don’t want to be in a hurry and put up bills without consultations,” he said.
Sangma said the government wants a policy on education and he has asked the Education Department to submit a draft of the policy along with a report within three months.
Telecom boost
Besides, the government is also keen to pass the telecom policy to provide mobile connectivity to remote villages in the state. In fact, it will meet telecom service providers next week.
Pointing out that many service providers in the city are installing towers without necessary permission, Sangma said once the telecom policy is in place, “it will solve all problems of call dropping and poor network”.
