4 insurgents arrested in South Arunachal Pradesh

GUWAHATI: Serving a blow to the extortion operations of insurgent groups, security forces operating against insurgents in South Arunachal Pradesh areas today arrested four hardcore militants – two from the NSCN(R) and rest belonging to the banned ULFA (Independent)

A defense source informed that, based on a specific input about presence of armed cadres in Ngeichang area of Changlang, column of Changlang battalion of Assam Rifles launched a swift operation and apprehended self-styled sergeant major Nongman Jugli and self-styled Lance Corporal Sampan Harap of Naga rebel group, NSCN (R). The cadres were found in possession of weapons, ammunition and other incriminating evidence. The arrested persons have confessed to allegiance to NSCN(R) as well as their involvement in extortion operation in the area confessed under the self-styled sergeant major.

In a similar intelligence based operation launched in Lekhapani area, security personnel apprehended Anil Kanikar alias Dahotia and Pramod Barua, both active cadres of ULFA(I), who were involved in extortion activities in the area.
