GUWAHATI: On the last leg of his two-day maiden visit to Dima Hasao, Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi held a series of meetings with the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), Deputy Commissioner Dima Hasao, heads of the departments, the security agencies and reviewed the developmental works and took stock of security scenario including the prevailing law and order in the district.
In the review meeting with all the heads of the departments at the conference hall of Dima Hasao Circuit House, Prof Mukhi took note of the status of several welfare schemes concerning health and hygiene, drinking water, cleanliness, education, road and communication, agriculture among others.
In another meeting which the Governor held along with the members of the NCHAC, Prof. Mukhi asked the Council Members to take keen interests in the implementation of government schemes along with maintaining cleanliness at every nook and corner of the district. He also urged upon the council members along with the district administration to forge a synergy and work dedicatedly in agriculture sector and work for suitable measure for doubling farmers’ income. He also asked them to incorporate new schemes to augment growth of agriculture and take the help of Assam Agricultural University to test the quality of the soil and accordingly guide the farmers for quality farming.
Emphasizing on skill development to generate employment opportunities Prof. Mukhi said that necessary interventional steps would be taken from the government side for increasing intake capacity of the ITI Halflong from the existing 100 to 200. He also said that he will personally take steps to set up a Polytechnic college in Dima Hasao.
To invoke swachhata in every aspect, the Governor asked Deputy Commissioner (DC) to undertake sudden visit to educational institutions, government offices, hospitals etc. He also directed the DC, Head of the Departments and Head of the educational institutions to strictly adhere to cleanliness besides making it mandatory for every institution to dedicate the first hour of their office on 7th day of every month for ‘swachhata’ and asked Deputy Commissioner to inspect at least six places on the same day from 3 pm to 4 pm as a part of cleanliness drive.
Under the programme christened “Bringing Green Revolution to Eastern India” (BGREI) the Governor ceremonially gave a Power tiller to one of the beneficiary.
The Governor also visited Zion village the second cleanest village in Assam and lauded the villagers for their efforts to keep the village clean. In an interaction with the villagers the Governor said, “I am very happy to be here and I congratulate you all for your contributions to make your village as the second cleanest village in the state.”
