SHILLONG: JD Sangma, the former director of Elementary and Mass Education, who gave his statement to the CBI on the education scam, gave a description of the person who was applying white ink on the score sheet.
An official source said Sangma gave only the description of the person, which makes it tough for the CBI to track down the person.
Though Sangma had earlier said two supporters of former Education Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh were involved in applying white ink on the score sheet, during the recent statement to the CBI, he said only one person was involved and the other was only supplying tea, sources said.
“Based on the letters/slips of paper containing recommendations with respect to candidates for appointment as LP school teachers, he with the help of two more persons (identity unknown to him), who were supporters of the then education minister, had applied white fluid on the score sheet and inflated the marks of the candidates ordered to be appointed by the education minister.
“This tampering of the scorecard was partially made at the residence of the minister and at Sangma’s office,” the first CBI report had quoted Sangma as saying.
The CBI is expected to seek more time for the submission of the report as the investigating agency will have to take statements from sitting MLAs, including Lyngdoh.
Earlier, 10 former MLAs were quizzed by the CBI for recommending the names of their preferential candidates for appointment.
