Police advisory to vehicle owners

SHILLONG: The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District has asked all workshops and proprietors to stop carrying out their work on public roads, streets and thoroughfares in order to cut down on pollution and to prevent obstruction, injury or annoyance to passersby.
The order is in pursuance of Section 101 of the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010
A statement by the police said that vehicle owners should replace or repair loud modified exhaust silencers and to get their LED lights removed, unless made by the manufacturer of the vehicle. Any person found disobeying the order issued may be arrested U/S 102 of the Police Act and on conviction by the Court of Law, will be liable to a fine of Rs. 5,000, the statement said.
The order has been issued in view of vehicles being fitted with accessories responsible for causing annoyance to the public.
The East Khasi Hills District Police also asked the public to come forth in case they come across any violators. Details can be provided to the nearest police station, BH/OP or PCR. Individuals can also contact 0364-2222277, 2215427 and 2226042.
