Cabinet ministers to visit district in every three months: Conrad Sangma

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma on Friday  informed the Assembly that the State Government was coming up with an innovative programme under which the cabinet ministers would have to visit one district in every three months.

Replying to the discussion on budget in the ongoing Budget session, Conrad Sangma stated that the ministers  during their visit to the  districts would  stay there for one-two days and review all the schemes and programmes of the State Government.

The cabinet ministers apart from holding review meetings would also hold public meetings to get a firsthand information about the implementation of the schemes and accordingly, Chief Minister’s office will take a report from the Ministers about their visit.

Such tours will begin from the first quarter itself and the all Ministers have been issued a memo in this regard,  the Chief Minister added.

Earlier, Chief Minister spoke  in detail about the  steps taken by the Government to  ease traffic jams in Shillong saying that the  task force has identified 18 locations in Shillong town   which can be de-congested  even as he added that the Transport department has conducted necessary survey   in those locations.

Sangma also pointed out  that the Government was working on war-footing to ensure the early completion of Mawlai Bye pass which was expected to provide  relief to the commuters from the ever increasing traffic jam in the town.

The Chief Minister also informed the House that Union Minister Of State for Tourism, KJ Alphons recently  took up the matter of expediting the work for the   proposed Western  Bypass with the Minister for Road Transport & Highways,  Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi

Conrad Sangma also asserted that the Government was aggressively pursuing the Shillong-Dawki road project.
