Higher Education Council Bill introduced
SHILLONG: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui tabled the Meghalaya State Higher Education Council Bill, 2018, in the Assembly on Friday. The bill will ensure a synergic relationship among state government universities, colleges, academics and experts. Rymbui also introduced the University of Technology and Management (Amendment) Act, 2018, under which the name ‘Maharashtra Institute of Technology University of Meghalaya’ will be replaced with University of Technology and Management.

Circulation of indecent video clips punishable
Shillong: With the recent incident of a video clipping of a young woman molested in a car in Mendipathar being circulated in social media, the office of the Superintendent of Police North Garo Hills, informed the public that circulation of video clips/messages/photographs etc which are indecent and objectionable is punishable under section 293 IPC with 7 (seven) years imprisonment with fine and 66E IT Act with three years imprisonment and fine not exceeding Rs two lakhs. Therefore, the general public needs to desist from sharing and spreading of objectionable video clippings in social media.

Shad Suk Mynsiem SWKH to be held on April 22-23
Mawkyrwat: The Seng Khasi South West Khasi Hills District in collaboration with the Seng Khasi Mawlangwir will organise the annual festival Shad Suk Mynsiem (dance of happy hearts) on April 22 and 23 at Madan Shad Seng Khasi Mawlangwir.  This will be the fifth time that it will be celebrated in Mawkyrwat after getting its own district, South West Khasi Hills in 2012.

RSM celebrates international street children’s day
Shillong: Reach Shillong Ministries celebrated International Street Children’s Day on April 12. The function was marked with solemnity and fun as the children from the streets of Shillong were able to participate in different activities especially arranged for them. The programme was inaugurated by Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Davis N R Marak IPS at a function held at Lam Jingshai Youth Center, Pohkseh. The SP in his speech besides highlighting the significance of International Day for street children, express his gratitude towards the ministry for its continuous effort to bring a change in the life of the children. It was also attended by M L Warjri, the District Child protection Officer, who spoke her heart out inviting the audience to join hands together to protect the rights of the street children. School students from Meghalaya Police Public School, Glakyn Secondary School and Synod Higher Secondary School were the special invitees .

Coaching for Civil Services prelims 2019
Shillong: Application for admission into the All India Services Pre-Examination Training Centre, Additional Secretariat Building (MATI premises), Shillong are invited from candidates both male and female, belonging to Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, OBCs of Meghalaya. Candidates whose parents are Safaiwallas who are eligible to appear at the UPSC Civil Services (Qualifying) Examination 2019 will be eligible for admission into the Centre. The coaching will be imparted through english medium. The last date for receipt of application in prescribed form is within April 20. Printed application form may be obtained from the office of the Officer on Special Duty, All India Services Pre-Examination Training Centre, Additional Secretariat Building (MATI premises), Shillong on working days between 11 am and 3pm on payment of Rs. 20. List of selected candidates will be displayed in the office Notice Board on May 14 at 1pm and classes will start from June 4.
