SHILLONG: A delegation of cabinet ministers from the State will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Sunday to discuss the matter of lifting NGT ban on coal mining in the state.
The delegation which comprises of Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, Cabinet ministers, Prestone Tynsong, AL Hek, Metbah Lyngdoh and Banteidor Lyngdoh will also meet the Union Coal Minister, Piyush Goyal.
The State Cabinet earlier this week had decided to pursue the resolution passed by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in 2015 for lifting of coal ban in the state.
The Assembly had earlier passed an official resolution urging the Centre to invoke Paragraph 12A (b) of the Sixth Schedule via a presidential notification to exempt the state from the provisions of central laws.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had imposed a blanket ban on unscientific coal mining in the state since April, 2014.
